Congressman Pat Williams
32 N Last Chance Gulch
Helena MT 59601 Dear Congressman Williams: If I’m not mistaken, telephone companies hold some sort of monopoly or franchise from the government, so that they have no competitors. Since there are no competitors, people have no choice but to use the one phone company that exists in their area* Hence I assume that there is some state or federal government agency that oversees the operation of phone companies to make sure that they provide reasonable service• I am enclosing a copy of a letter that I’ve sent to the Montana State Commerce Department complaining about the Lincoln Telephone Company of Lincoln, Montana. Unfortunately, I doubt whether the Montana State Commerce Department is the right place to send such a letter. So I would appreciate it if you would forward my letter to the appropriate state or federal government agency and ask them to make the Lincoln Telephone Company do something about their quarter-stealing pay phones. Thank you very much for your help. Sincerely yours,
[signed]
Theodore J. Kaczynski

I have forwarded your letter to Mr. Bob Anderson, your elected representative on the Montana Public Service Commission. The mission has some regulatory authority over telephone service providers in the state. Please stay in touch and do let me know if I can help on any other matter in the future. Best regards.
