About the Archive

The dataset include all writings analysed by James Fitzgerald relating to the case of the Unabomber. These documents include writings that were found in Kaczynski's cabin, samples of Ted Kaczynski's writings provided by family and other sources, letters sent to potential targets, and miscellaneous material. Some of the documents are also available on Fitzgerald website, at www.jamesrfitzgerald.com. The individual files provided in the different collections composing the corpus are in non-OCR PDF format.

James Fitzgerald was a member of the FBI UNABOM taskforce donated a treasure trove of documents to California University in the Spring of 2021.

California University scanned up the documents and made them public in 2022. There are still items listed as Part 1 for which there's no Part 2, but it may be that some documents were simply lost.

One of the most interesting files is simply a list of some of the books he had in his cabin at the time of his arrest and the notes he would leave in the margins of the books. To see a sortable table of items in the cabin based on various sources then click here.
