Doc Converting

ABBYY fine reader is the best pdf to word doc converter, then I save it as a HTML, then drag and drop into the little upload box underneath the text box when creating a new text.

And you can always get the program for free through those jolly sailor friends:

Converting EPUBs to Doc

I drag and drop the file onto the website Convertio then save the file as a HTML in word.

Other tips

If I upload a book to the website and it gets the heading levels wrong, I copy paste it into a spreadsheet column, create a column of numbers to the left, then sort both by the text on the right and look for all the heading text beginning with ** which makes it easier to fix, seeing all the headings together.

Quote Indents

This one takes a long time, but if you have a lot of books you want to bulk upload perfectly with quote indents, you can do them this way and all at the same time so it's worth it:

So if I have the document open in LibreOffice, I hit File -> Export -> and chose MediaWiki format in the 'Save as' drop down menu.

Then I open up the new file and copy paste it back into an office word document. All the indents will look something like this: "<div style="margin-left:1.251cm;margin-right:0cm;">___</div>

Then I find and replace all the "<div style...." and</div> into amusewiki code <quote>and</quote> .

Then replace single line quotes into block quotes by doing find and replace "</quote>^p^p<quote>" with simply "^p^p".

Sharing Doc Info

If you have PDFs of stuff you'd like to share, you can always upload them temporarily to disroot and post the link on the discord.

Or you can let people know about docs you'd like info on.

Technological Slavery

If you have information about the latest version of Ted's book Technological Slavery there are people on the discord who would love to discuss some of the essays:

This link shows a long table of contents with a fair few essays not on the website:

  • Letter to Dr. P.B. on the Motivations of Scientists

  • On Learned Helplessness

  • Human Will Versus the "Objective" Forces of History

  • Why Democracy is the Dominant Political Form of the Modern World

  • Sarmiento and the Gauchos

  • Disposal of Radioactive Waste

  • Loyalty to the System Versus Loyalty to Traditional Social Groups: Some Examples Relevenant to Paragraphs 51 & 52 of ISAIF

  • In Support of the Letter to Dr. P.B.

Finally, here's the earlier version we have on the website: Technological Slavery

Critique Us

Reading critiques and suggestions on the direction people think this project should head in is always useful. Whether it be that you think the table of contents should be re-organized or disclaimers added to texts, etc. Let us know by joining the discord, tweeting at us, emailing or DMing us.

Ethical steps taken by this project

We have a list of essays critiquing Ted’s politics & philosophy on the front page of the website.

There are long critiques and disclaimers added to some texts and we aim to add more.

When collecting together research on misanthropic groups and projects, we simply title the text ‘a text dump on ______’. That way for example we don’t dignify fictional stories terror groups weave when they write their own press releases and title them as communiqués.

Anyone can join the debate over which texts should go up on the website, obviously if you join just to troll or spam though, you will be removed.

A record will be kept of all texts that were rejected, whether for minor formatting reasons or deeply held political reasons.

A record will also be kept of controversial texts that were approved, where for example there was a sizable disagreement.

Ideally, in the future we will have popular sorting mechanisms directly under the main search box, such as a check box for 'only anarchist texts' that would exclude texts labelled 'not anarchist'.
